Intensified Restrictions on Access to Online Resources Outside Russia
According to reports from various sources, in October, Roskomnadzor began active testing of new algorithms designed to restrict internet access and disrupt tools used to bypass censorship. As many had suspected, the recent periodic internet shutdowns that have been occurring almost on schedule were deliberate and man-made. Although this year has so far been relatively calm compared with the previous two, it is becoming increasingly clear that this was merely the calm before the next tightening of the “Cheburnet” — Russia’s closed national internet system.
